SUBSTANCE ABUSE:

Whether it be Substance Abuse (drugs or alcohol), Food Addiction, Internet Addiction, Sex Addiction, Gambling, or the socially acceptable addictions such as being a workaholic, I will help you to identify and get at the root of these typical avoidance behaviors and teach you healthier ways of facing your fears and getting your needs met in healthier, more life affirming ways. This can have the impact of bringing others closer to you rather than pushing them away.

We will explore all of your current methods for managing stress and identify those which are working and those which are harming you and your loved ones. Often, but not always, there is a history of abuse and trauma at the root of it. So, we may decide to do deeper work by using a variety of trauma recovery techniques including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

The effects of your addiction(s) can put you or others at great risk and we may discuss the possibility of more intensive support and treatment should this become apparent in our discussions.
